Tree Invertebrates

1 person in the group opens epicollect and selects “ASM Invertebrates IDJA”.

Does all the steps in epicollect and then saves data

Identify the tree species, using tree finder

Identify circumference using a measuring tape by wrapping it around the tree meter side facing towards you che

identify air temperature in the shaded area .

If the tree has multiple trunks, find the circumference of each one and add them up.

Inspect the tree bark and the branches and bark and identify any invertebrates.

Open umbrella upside down under sampling area of tree to allow it to to catch any bugs that fall Whack/shake the sampling area tree branches 15 times.

Inspect the umbrella for invertebrates.

Count the different species of invertebrates and record it on a data sheet.

Catch one of every species that landed into the umbrella and place them in a petri dish per invertebrate.

Then tape and secure the petri dish close then label the petri dish with the date, group initials and field number.

Clean the umbrella by turning it upside down and shaking it
-
Repeat the same process at 4 different trees
-
Identify the collected invertebrates back at the lab and revise the data sheet once identified.
